Larry, I googled the 173rd and ran into your site. It appears as though your a San Francisco Bay Area guy. My son Matthew is in the 503rd a company. I’m live and work in San Jose.
This will be Matthews second tour to Afghanistan with the 173rd. He was there from 2005-2006. Needless to say I am also proud of him and the sacrifice of 5 years of his life to serve his country. He knew what he was getting into and he is also proud of his duty and actions so far.
His wife will be having their first child sometime this Sept and we are definitely hoping he will be able to take his leave then to be here for that.
Pass on my admiration and thanks to your son who has also chosen the high road.
My son also serves with the 173….2-503, and is prepping for his second afghan tour. I swore nothing could be worse then the worry when he left the first time…but now we know how bad it’s going tob e and my heart is broken.
May God watch over our sons…and keep then safe.
Well, by now most of the unit is in country, or as my son says, The Stan. He’s a medic with the 1-503rd and has been able to send back a few photos. This is his first tour and he was a bit apprehensive, but says that he is adjusting well. I live in Castro Valley, and I agree it would be good sometime to all get together. Memorial Day sure brought things home!

Sometime if we’re in the same town together maybe we can get together and have a beer or whatever.
